J
im's
entertainment background spans three
decades.
An opening
show for singers such as
Kenny Rogers and B.J.
Thomas, Jim has been a
consistent favourite at
national and international
showcases, songwriting
contests, and high profile
corporate events. His 2003
CD, The Bar H,
propelled Jim into the
Western Music community in
the USA and in 2005, he was
chosen by The Academy of
Western Artists as the only
solo male performer in the
Top 5 Nominees for
Rising Star of the Year.
Idaho's
award-winning radio host
Tommy Tucker sums it up;
“When I think of a working
rancher in the Western
entertainment genre, Jim is
at the top of my list.
This Alberta Cowboy
can do it all, he can write,
pick, sing and entertain all
in one robust little
package!”
Jim sang
solo in his first music festival at age
six and started guitar lessons at age
nine.
Jim and
his wife Marion live in Weyburn,
Saskatchewan, Canada.
Five
wonderfully independent adult children
complete their family.

Dear Jim & Marion,
March 20,
2006
I don't know where
to begin. Thank you
so very much for the
incredible show! I
had a ton of phone
calls at home
yesterday to let me
know how much folks
enjoyed the evening.
I am hoping you will
consider coming back
again.
Seriously, it was
wonderful. Here I go
sounding like a
groupie, but Jim you
are one of the best
entertainers I have
seen. You are a
tremendous
songwriter, picker
and singer, but it's
your stage presence
and entertainment
skill that really
sets you apart. You
grabbed us and held
us! People weren't
trying to leave
early (we've had
that happen
before!). You left
us all wanting more.
Thank you from the
bottom of my heart.
I hope your trip
home was uneventful
and you found all
your four-legged
creatures well and
happy. I look
forward to your next
concert.
Your friend,
Laurie Hovey

"One
of the most interesting performers of cowboy music
in the new century is Canada's Jim Reader. From his
material to his gritty delivery of it,
is
definitely one of the more original Western Writers
around.
He's cowboy music's Bob Dylan or Neil Young, but
Reader hits more of the notes! Seriously, the depth
of thought and guitar technique equate to such
artists.
Many
of Jim's songs have an experimental or
push-the-envelope edge in lyric content and
arrangement. Never fear! It's all still true
"Cowboy," but let's just say this cowboy's not
afraid to hose out the stable."
Rick Huff,
Albuquerque, NM, Western Music Critic
'Rope Burns',
'Classic Country & Western' and 'The Western Way'
Magazines
"Jim is going to be a legendary western entertainer.
His picking style and voice are powerful and
soulful."
(the late) Tony Reed,
Western
Entertainer & Radio Host, WA
"Jim's
entertainment skill
sets him apart - he grabbed and held us - we
want him back!"
Laurie
Hovey, Event Organizer, Genesse, ID
"Jim is a true cowboy
gentleman and sang beautifully to our crowd."
Bev
Boyle, Concert Review, The 100 Mile House
Advisor, 100 Mile House, BC
"Reader has a
phenomenal guitar talent and knack for writing
lyrics that revolve around working cowboys and ranch
life."
Western
Horseman Magazine
"This boy's music has heart, where in blue blazes
has he been hidin'?"
Ben
Crane, Singer/Songwriter, Producer & Western
Fine-Art Cartoonist
"When
I think of a working rancher who can write, sing,
pick and perform, Jim is at the top of my list.
This Alberta cowboy can do it all. His album The
Bar H is excellent because you can believe what
he has written and sings. Only a true cowboy can do
that. He really comes to life when he performs on
stage with talent, energy, and a personality that
draws his audience's attention immediately. This
artist's talent and ability knows no limits!"
' Toe
Tappin' Tommy Tucker, KRLC Radio, Lewiston,
Idaho 2003 Academy of Western Artists
'Radio Station Of The Year'
"I
hear a ton of cowboy music every day but some time
in a great while some cowboy emerges from Canada and
starts this cycle all over and it makes a person
wonder "why have I not heard of Jim Reader until
now", well let me tell you folks, some things in
life are well worth the wait. Jim's music is the
real thing, I would recommend this album to be
included in every western music library."
Joe Baker, KNMB/KWMW,
Ruidoso, New Mexico
"Jim Reader has a real
gift for lyrics and music and his pleasing
distinctive voice has just the hint of an edge to
it. In addition to his writing and singing talents,
Jim is one of the better finger pickin' guitar
players around.
You'll
love The Bar H, it's a first class
release.... after listening to it I was so inspired,
I just had to go take a ride in the hills."
Hugh
McLennan, Host, Spirit of the West Radio Show
Review, Canadian Cowboy Country Magazine
"Jim Reader is one of those guys with a ton of
talent and potential coming out the ears!"
Marc
Stevenson, Country Wave Magazine
“Exciting,
soulful, witty, and picturesque songwriting
corraled with gutsy and melodic guitar pickin' .
Authentic cowboy music at it's best for sure.
He gives his audience a soulful gift straight
from the heart!
Jim Reader is ridin' high in the saddle
with the greatest western cowboy performers
today.”
Emele Clothier, Horse
Crazy Cowgirl Band, WA
“Jim’s songs swing into your heart with true history
of the Cowboy. This is great music!”
Lauralee Northcott, The Dollar Watch
Cowboy Show, KIVLR,
Twisp, WA
"
A songwriter's songwriter."
Janelle
Brennand, Okotoks (Alberta) Western Wheel
"Jim is a distinctive ‘all-round’ artist . . . a
prolific lyricist and songwriter . . . a dynamic
vocalist . . . a unique guitar picker . . . and a
charismatic performer. It takes years to develop an
extensive repertoire of original music --- and Jim
has it! He and his show are ready-made!"
The
Producers, ABYSS Multimedia Inc.
"Jim received a standing ovation from an
enthusiastic crowd of over 100 . . . Entertaining
for three hours with his own lively assortment . .
sometimes dreamy and romantic . . sometimes
humorous, and sometimes exuberantly upbeat."
Cochin
Newsletter, Cochin (Resort Town), Saskatchewan
"Jim
drifts back to our western heritage and mingles it
into his original material to mirror contemporary
western life as we know it. His voice has a peaceful
resonance which expounds that country feeling. A
"Western Soul" is deep in Jim's heart and his music
reflects that --- and so do his toe tapping feet
when he forgets anyone's there and he's lost in the
place the song takes him. The fun is he takes us
with him."
